The phone DOES work, I was just not doing the right thing. I'm sorry to have caused you to take so much time on what was a simple error on my part. As for the SIM card, thanks for clarifying the situation, and for the Orange website. I will be in Scotland, N. Ireland, and England, so would only need a UK chip. It seems the most basic plan would be fine for me, since I plan no "roaming" in other European countries.
